The Code

Ten lines. Memorize them. Recite them. Sensei Steve will quiz you, in person, at any hour, at any location, with no warning.

"A Code Is Only A Code If It Costs You Something To Follow It."— Sensei Steve, Tuesday, all Tuesdays, every Tuesday

The Eagle Fang Code

  1. Mercy is for the weak. By which we mean mercy toward your own excuses. Be ruthless. Excuses do not pay rent.
  2. Strike first. The thinking happens before the day starts, not in the middle of it. A man who plans his morning at 9 AM has already lost.
  3. Strike hard. There is no such thing as a small effort that compounds. Compounding is a story we tell soft people.
  4. The fight you are avoiding is the only fight that matters. Everything else is bookkeeping.
  5. Your body is the meeting room. If it is in disrepair the meeting is in disrepair. Hire a contractor.
  6. An untested opinion is a rumor. Test it before you share it. Share it the moment you have tested it.
  7. Be loyal to outcomes, not habits. Habits are a tool. Outcomes are the boss. Most people have inverted these.
  8. Bad news first. Always. To everyone. In a clean sentence. The relief is on the other side.
  9. Your friends will tell you the truth if you do not punish them for it. Most people punish them for it. This is the explanation for most of your problems.
  10. Cobra Kai is a brand. Eagle Fang is a discipline. Know the difference. Wear the headband anyway.
No Mercy · No Excuses · No RefundsThe Three No's. Memorize these as well. They will be on the quiz.

What The Code Is Not

Not A Religion

If you find yourself defending it on the internet, you have misunderstood it. Eagle Fang does not need defenders. Eagle Fang has a Pontiac Firebird.

Not A Personality

If you have started introducing yourself with the Code at parties, please stop. Sensei Steve will hear about it. You will be invited to a Single Strike Session, at your expense.

Not A License

The Code is not a license to be unpleasant at dinner. Sensei Steve has made all three of these mistakes in his own life and now teaches the corrections. He has been asked to leave one Cracker Barrel. He blames himself. He has worked through it.

The point of the Code is not that you live by it perfectly. The point of the Code is that the Code does not move when you fail. You either climb back up to where the Code is, or you find a softer Code. Most people find a softer Code. We are not most people.Sensei Steve, last paragraph of every intake
